Questions

Frequently asked questions

The things guests usually want to know before booking a room at the Pheasant. If yours isn’t here, call us on 01434 240 382 and someone who knows the answer will pick up.

Rooms are ready from 2pm and we ask you to check out by 10.30am. If you’re going to arrive late, let us know when you book and we’ll make sure someone is expecting you.

No. We just take your card details to secure the booking, and you pay when you leave. If you would rather pay in advance, let us know and we can arrange it.

Yes. Every room rate includes a full Northumbrian breakfast cooked to order and served in the dining room from 8am — local bacon and sausage, free-range eggs, smoked haddock and smoked salmon.

We’re sorry, but we’re unable to take dogs — either in the bedrooms or in Garden Cottage. Assistance dogs are welcome by prior arrangement — please contact us before your visit so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

Children are welcome at The Pheasant Inn. We can provide a pop-up travel cot on request, but please bring your own cot linen and baby bedding.

If you are travelling with a baby or young child, let us know their age when you book and whether you need a cot. Our bedrooms vary in size and layout, so this helps us give your family the most suitable room. Please also tell us about any other requirements when you make your reservation.

Yes. Most of our King-size and Twin rooms, and the Family Room, are on the ground floor with level access from the car park. A few rooms are on the first floor, reached by an external stone stair, so tell us when you book if stairs are a problem and we’ll make sure you have a ground-floor room. If you use a wheelchair, please call us before you book: one or two of our ground-floor rooms can accommodate a wheelchair, though they aren’t specially adapted, and there’s no wheelchair-accessible toilet in the pub. We’d much rather talk your needs through with you directly so we can get it right.

Kielder Water is about five minutes away by car and Kielder Observatory around twenty. Hexham is forty minutes, Newcastle upon Tyne an hour and a quarter, Carlisle an hour and a half, and Hadrian’s Wall under an hour down the North Tyne valley.

Free parking sits right outside the rooms and there’s free Wi-Fi throughout the inn. We can wash and dry walkers’ and cyclists’ kit in our laundry, and packed lunches can be pre-ordered the night before.

Yes — Garden Cottage can be booked online for stays of three nights or more, from around £180 a night. If you would like the cottage alongside rooms in the inn for a larger party, call 01434 240 382 and we’ll sort it out for you.
